Out of Purgatory
December 2010
Out of Purgatory – December 2010 Out of Purgatory has been staged two times in the past five years by the Peake Street Studio Collective, which is an artist-run collective in Prince Edward Island. Conceived as an artist challenge, unfinished and emotionally abandoned artwork are given and blind-selected by new artists for completion and presentation. This project is an exploration of process with each participating artist being both a donor and rescuer of an abandoned work. The incomplete donated works are freely given so that the artists selected to complete the works have the freedom to complete them in any way they wish.
This year, Peake Street Studio Collective, Gallery Connexion, and Eastern Edge Gallery in St. John’s, NL are together staging Out of Purgatory with 12 artists participating from each center. All 36 completed works will be on exhibit at the Confederation Centre for the Arts in PEI from mid-September to mid-October. Following this joint exhibition, each center will individually exhibit the completed work of their participating members. Gallery Connexion will be exhibiting the completed work of the above listed artists in December of 2010 with the work being sold via silent auction.
Participating artists from Gallery Connexion: Kim Vose Jones, Carol Collicutt, WhiteFeather, Derek Davidson, Monica Lacey, Carol Taylor, Oliver Flecknell, Amanda Saulnier, Joss Richer, Karen LeBlanc, Rita Sassani, Ann Kittredge
