Muriel Bell
I was born and grew up in north-western Ontario. I graduated from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto in 1964 and was employed for the next fourteen years as designer and decorator of residential and corporate interiors, and in schematically documenting early New Brunswick furniture for historical purposes. In 1978 I began making non-commercial art solely in my private studio, and had my first solo exhibition at the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John. Twelve solo exhibitions and many group shows followed to date.
I use collage, mixed media, drawing and painting as vehicles for expression in a wide spectrum ranging from representation to abstract imagery.
As well as private and corporate collections, my work is included in these public collections:
- UNB Fredericton
- Province of NB
- Department of National Defense
- CFB Gagetown
- Field Artillery Combat Training Centre
- New Brunswick Art Bank
- Beaverbrook Art Gallery
- St. Thomas University
- Third Age Centre
- Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital
- NB Provincial Archives (portrait of the late Hon. Muriel McQueen Fergusson now held by the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation, Fredericton)
I am represented by Gallery 78 in Fredericton. Please see www.gallery78.com for additional information.
